INTRODUCTION
After last year being nearly the last Isle Of Wight Venture ever, 1st Shanklin VSU are once again arranging a bigger and bolder futuristic 'Isle Of Wight venture 2000'. This has come about due to the demand for another camp following the success of last year, this will make it the staggering Sixth camp organised by 'The Management'. The team started out arranging the camp as a unit of three Venture Scouts plus their leader, after their expedition to Europe for European Venture.
WHEN?
Isle of Wight Venture takes place over the Easter Bank Holiday (So don’t forget your Easter Eggs!). Starting on
Thursday 20th April (preferably arriving after 1pm), and ending on Monday 24th April (with a tearful farewell!).
THANKS
The Management would like to thank all of those who have supported us by coming over the years and to those special few that have not missed any of the camps. Not forgetting all of those ventures who come and experience 'Isle Of Wight Venture' and go home with their own special memories.
HOW MUCH ???
Isle of Wight Venture will only cost the measly sum of;
£39 per person
.(what a bargain). This small sum includes all the exciting daytime activities and fun loving night time partying events. What is does not unfortunately include is the travel costs and your food and drink (optional) costs.
WHY ?
For those of you who have not been to Isle of Wight Venture yet (why not!). The camp consist, of four days of fun and frolics, a chance to enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, sight seeing trips and a chance to meet other Venture Scouts from around the country. Last year's massive success had Units from Cheshire, London, Southampton, Merseyside, Somerset, Birmingham, Hertfordshire (to name but a few). Following requests from last years camp some additional activities have been laid on, some of these activities only have a limited number of places, so we advise early booking. We hope that you will join us, and them for IOW Venture ’2000.
A SMALL GUIDE TO PAYING
To register all you need to do is fill in the booking form and send a deposit cheque made payable to IOW Venture for £5 per person by the 15th December. This will secure your unit places. The final payment will be due on 15th February

Day Time Activities In More Detail
Friday:….
Judo:
Get a pal with a bad head, and throw them over you shoulder, it couldn't be any better. Time to get your own back.
Water Activities:
Come from an Inner City, or basically from up North, us Southerners have this wonderful thing called sea.
Have a go at Dinghy Sailing, Canoeing or even go out into the Solent in a Yacht. Last Year was the First year for this activity, and it was welcomed with open arms. It has proved itself a success for Ventures and has taken the place of the traditional Wind-Surfing / Surfing that believe it or not Ventures complained that they got cold (I didn't realise that we were organising a Beaver Camp).
This time you should be on the water not in the water. An activity for all.
Saturday:….
Riffle Shooting:
This is a new activity for Isle Of Wight Venture, we have done Clay Pigeon Shooting and Archery in the past, but now try your aim with a Rifle. This is a morning activity to allow everyone to have a slight lay in (if desired) and then to complete this activity before commencing with the busy day ahead.
Isle Of Wight Treasure Hunt:
We the Management love handing out puzzles and quizzes. This will be no exception, we will say though that it will give you a chance to see the Lovely Island and to take many happy Unit snaps. Yet again I am sure that there will be a prize for the winning unit, so you can not loose.
Golf:
Well this was yet another new activity to Isle Of Wight Venture 1999, and one that I can honestly say drove the Management Mad. It looks so easy on TV, you see your ball at your feet, you look up and you see the flag, nice and simple you are thinking, and then WHACK……WHOOSH……POOOIIING, as it hurtles to the left and hits that solitary tree.
Funny the first time but when it hits a tree on every stroke then it becomes hilarious.
You have to show your pass to have a go, can you make par or just boogies.
Football:
We have always held a football competition, and had a varying standard of teams, including one team who was called 'Norfolk and Chance' who went out in the first round about three years ago, feeling sorry we allowed them to re-enter the first round again. Now being called 'Norfolk and Chance II', they ended up winning the tournament.
This year we are moving the tournament inside to a sports centre, with proper referees (Well as proper as 'Management' referees are). The teams can be mixed so all can take part, I must admit some of the female sides have been far better than some of the male sides I have seen over the years.
I will say at this point (ssshhh we haven't told you this), that the Sports Center has showers so a much earned normal height shower could be grabbed at this opportunity before the Karaoke Evening.
Sunday:….
The day everyone has been waiting for, not only is it Easter Sunday, so its choco time, but it is another day to remember, firstly:-
Film:
Following Saturday you will be feeling the strain, especially your throats after the Karaoke, so we have a gentle film starting the day off, this will be a video in the Hall. For the people that have been in the past I hear you sigh with relief that we have not chosen to do Aerobics this year.
And Then…….World War III……The final finale……Go on Baldrick it's one last push………………………the end. (or is it).
Headhunters:
This event is fun and probably muddy, a massive successful event. You will be armed with Rifles and some armed with Machine Guns, the group will be split into two and yes you have guessed it……….It's War Time. For those of you a little bit worried still, there is no live ammunition it is all laser guided shooting.
There is no second best it’s either your life or theirs and if it was me, I’d now what I would prefer.
Kamikaze is one way or a more adapt strategy could be the answer, it’s up to your platoon. Just one hint. Just mind where you are sticking your weapon.
Sightseeing:
Throughout the weekend you will have time for sightseeing, or splashing out on a Sauna and comfortable shower, any questions on places to go ask the Management. But for the rest of the day you can spend time with your units doing what you wish, from visiting Alum Bay with its Coloured Sand, to going to Osbourne House the summer home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Or Visiting the Tiger Sanctuary, or even visiting one of our many local Inn's around the Island, this time is allocated to you to spend as you wish, just make sure you are back in time to get on your Hawaiian Dress.
It will also give you the chance to finish the Treasure Hunt set, for that wonderful prize that awaits the winner.
